Illuminate is the sixth installment of the Inter-Actief International Business Course (IBC).
This year the IBC will take you to the sunny city of Lisbon, Portugal. The IBC aims to give you insight into
the possibilities that Europe offers for studying, internships, or even a job outside of The Netherlands.
During the IBC we will visit multiple companies and universities in Lisbon. Furthermore, there will be
plenty of time to explore Lisbon and take part in cultural activities.

About Lisbon
Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is a vibrant and historical city that has something for everyone.
Located along the Atlantic coast, Lisbon is known for its mild climate, beautiful beaches, and stunning views.
Lisbon is referred to by some as the "City of Light", due to its sunny climate and uniquely vibrant natural light.
The city is known as a center of learning and culture, and is home to a rich culture and history, with
landmarks such as the Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery, and Sao Jorge Castle. In addition to its cultural
attractions, Lisbon is a hub for business and innovation. The city is home to a thriving startup scene and
is known for its technology and design industries. Lisbon is also known for its delicious cuisine, featuring
seafood, pastries, and the famous Portuguese egg tarts.
Whether you're interested in history, culture, business, or simply soaking up the Mediterranean atmosphere, Lisbon has something for you.
The tour
The IBC Illuminate will take place from the 12th to the 17th of June, 2023. In those five days,
you will get to see several companies, ranging from multinationals to startups. Moreover, we expect to visit some
of the many universities, so you will be able to experience the university culture in Lisbon. As we get closer to the
departure date of the tour, the program will be presented to the participants and posted on this website.
The tour will cost you approximately €325,- This includes the flights to Lisbon and back, a four-day stay in a
hostel (including breakfast), public transport in Lisbon, and the company and university visits. The price does
not include lunch and dinner.
Stay after
As you are already in the region, you may want to stay longer than the duration of the IBC to discover more of Lisbon
or the rest of Portugal. Contrary to previous installments of the IBC, we cannot move or cancel the flight back to
The Netherlands. This does not mean that staying for longer is impossible. However, if you choose not to use the
booked flight back to The Netherlands, you will not get a restitution of the costs of your flight back.
Who can take part?
To take part in the IBC Illuminate you have to be a member of Inter-Actief. The IBC is meant
for students in at least their second year, who are interested in orienting themselves for a Master's degree,
internship, or job. Everything related to enrolling and the selection criteria can be found below. Read the
terms carefully, as they differ from previous years.
Enrolling
Enrolling in IBC Illuminate is straightforward. Please fill in the form available via the button below before
February 5th, 2023. To enroll in the IBC we ask you to write a short motivation letter of around 200 to 300 words.
This way we get to know more about why you want to take part in the IBC. In the form, we also ask for some basic
personal information. This information will be handled with care and respect for your privacy, and will not be used
for purposes other than the IBC.
The committee will, together with the board of Inter-Actief, review the enrolled students
after February 5th.
For the sake of transparency, this will be the selection procedure:
The board will anonymize all motivational letters and bundle them with some information like your year of study.
The motivational letters will be read by the individual committee members and be ranked.
The rank of motivational letters that are regarded as equal is decided by the number of years left to finish a degree.
The committee will discuss the motivational letters and come up with a list of participants.
Then there are two cases which we need to discuss further:
Something along the lines of: “I just want to drink wine in Lisbon” is considered to be a not-so-good motivation.
If there are two or more similar motivations and one should be dropped out, then a potential participant who
has less time left before finishing their degree will have privilege.
Attending
If you are selected to attend IBC Illuminate, we will let you know before Monday February
12th.
In the weeks that follow, you will have to sign your participant contract over which you will be notified of
course.
Afterwards, you will officially attend International Business Course Illuminate!
